Brack Hardee is fighting brain cancer.
Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), is the most common and most aggressive malignant primary brain tumors in humans.
Brack Hardee was born in Wilmington, NC in 1969 and raised around the game of baseball. He played for his father at New Hanover High School before moving on to a college career. Playing one year for Mount Olive College in NC before transferring and playing the rest of his college career for The UNCW Seahawks in his hometown. Brack has dedicated his life to coaching kids in the sport that he loves. He coached on a 2 time State Championship team in NC before moving to Florida to continue coaching at Jupiter High School. Brack was part owner and founder of The Wilmington Baseball Academy and worked part time for Bucky Dent Baseball School before being hired full time when they converted to Elev8 Sports Institute, where he was most recently National Director of Camps and Dean of Students. Brack was diagnosed with Stage IV Glioblastoma Multiforme (the same brain cancer as Gary Carter) in 2011, but continues to give 100% of himself to the sport that he loves and to the children who dream of playing America's Game! Brack has been married to his wife Sarah for 10 years now and they have two beautiful children, Ella (5) & Hunter (3).
Our Journey:
No one is ever ready to hear the "C" word, but especially not when you are only 41 with two small children. Brack first presented symptoms while out to eat dinner in February 2011 with his wife and was eventually diagnosed on April 8, 2011 with Glioblastoma Multiforme Stage IV after brain surgery. This is where the journey begins... For the 1st year and a half scans came back clear. Then on the last scan before he was going to be backed off of his chemo regimen he received a phone call that he wasn't prepared for. The scans showed possible new tumors. Upon returning to Duke to review the scans, he learned that there were new tumors and would not be backing off of chemo, but instead switching to a new regimen. Chemos have been switched several times now and new tumors continue to show themselves . Brack has worked 40+ hours until May of 2013 when the newest tumor has caused him to be weak on his right side and left him unable to work at this time.
