Malawi RN

As many of you know, I have been to and volunteered in Tanzania, Africa in 2007 and 2009; however, ever since I got accepted to my nursing program, it has been a dream of mine to go back to Africa and work as a nurse-and I am proud to announce that I will be spending 5 weeks in Malawi, starting in May of 2014! I will be working with the Medical Council of Malawi as a nurse at a hospital and various outreach clinics. I am going with a non-profit organization called African Impact. African Impact is the largest on-the-ground facilitator and operator of responsible volunteer projects in Africa.
About Malawi: the majority of Malawi's population lives in rural areas and is provided with free health care through a governmental health care system that is organized into three levels. Health centers manage the most common and easily treated problems and offer maternity services. Cases that cannot be dealt with at this level are referred to district community hospitals, which provide secondary health care, including some types of basic surgery. Tertiary care is then offered at one of the three central hospitals, situated in the North, Central and Southern regions. I will be working at one of these hospitals! But I need YOUR help!
Accompanying this amazing opportunity is also a fee; the fee has two parts: plane fare is approximately $2,000.00, while the project fee (for four weeks) for the current travel year is $1,619.00. The final price for the next travel year will be given to me soon! Details on what the project fee entails are listed below!
Project Fee: This entails financing that goes directly back into the project that you are involved with. This fee facilitates funding for items such medical supplies, building materials, equipment, etc. Project fees are also used to buy vehicles / equipment for the project, and for developing new housing for volunteers to provide for the expansion of the project. The majority of the fee includes: All airport transfers Lilongwe International Airport upon arrival and departure on set dates, comprehensive orientation program, all daily transfers to and from your projects during your stay, full board and lodging which includes 3 meals a day at the volunteer house, assistance in the projects by various Project Managers and Coordinators and 24 field support and contact in the case of an emergency.
